What gets missed most

  • Penetrations not fire-safed after the last trade passes through.
  • One trade's work covered by another before inspection.
  • Piping that was never tested.
  • No identification on piping and conduit.

This is a field checklist, not the code. Your inspector enforces the code and local amendments your jurisdiction has adopted.

Questions trades ask

What is a rough-in inspection?

The inspection of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and framing work before it's covered. Each trade's inspector signs off before insulation and drywall.

Who uses an all-trades rough-in checklist?

Usually the GC's superintendent or QC rep, walking every trade before calling for inspections so each trade fixes its items first.

What does firesafing mean?

Sealing penetrations in fire-rated walls and floors with listed materials so fire and smoke can't pass through.

Can I use this checklist on my phone?

Yes. It's built into myBivy for Trades, free for up to 5 people: Pass, Fail or N/A on each item, notes, photos and readings, signatures on site, and a clean PDF for the GC.
